Herlena, 8 years old girl hailed from Tenom. Herlena was diagnosed with moderate ventricular septal defect which needs a VSD closure. Herlena has a younger sister and the father is the only bread earner with 5 other members to support and all are categorized under B40 group.
Herlena was successfully operated on 2nd January 2022 at IJN, Kuala Lumpur and returned home on 7th January 2022. Herlena is also one of the 3 patients under the #SaveMyHeart# campaign where the Society raise RM150K in conjunction with the S.O.S Heart Fund 40th Anniversary Celebration to sponsor 3 more patients for 2021.
Herlena was accompanied by her mother, Rozlina. She was truly grateful to all donors of the Society who has made it possible for Herlena whose surgery has been delayed due to lack of funds. Rozlina said now she can get to live knowing Herlena has been operated and that she can live a normal life like any other children. She also thanks the Society in providing moral support by calling them and assisting them of the process and also to arrange for the flight and transportation as they were first time flyer. The trip brought anxiety and joy, anxiousness as we don’t know what to expect and joy because with the operation, we know she will now live a normal life.
The Society also provides them with food basket to bring back to Tenom where Herlena will continue to recuperate and she will continue her followup and review at the local hospital.
